“Great question. The great thing about the Moola Monster system is the “lessons” the kids learn. My grandmother grew up on a farm. She had to feed chickens, milk the cow, etc. if she expected to eat. It today’s world kids rarely participate in the support of the home necessities. As a result children are truly raised purely to be consumers. When a child participates in the Moola Monsters’ system they are taught that there are consequences for actions. They are taught the value of delayed gratification. They are taught buyer’s remorse. They are taught the value of earning and saving and how they relate to life.
When my son was 4 he decided he wanted some watermelon gum. Junk food in our home costs 5 Moola Monster cards. On the way home from the store he chewed the gum and decided he did not like and did not want to pay me the 5 cards. I explained to him that he had already spent the 5 cards. Needless to say he cried. I am not going to lie, I was laughing on the inside. At age 4 he fully understood buyer’s remorse.
One day when my oldest boy was 7 he woke me up early on a Saturday morning. He was carrying close and shoes into my closet. I asked my wife, “what is he doing?’ She told me that he had seen a toy he wanted and is earning cards by cleaning the house. He not only understood the value of hard work, but was creating opportunities for himself… entrepreneurship.
There are so many stories from parents. I have seen children help siblings learn how to potty train. I have had parents tell me that by using the system they went to school for the first time without fighting. I even had a parent tell me his 6 year old cleaned the basement. Understanding delayed gratification, consequences for choices, the value of good work ethics, and more transcends our economy. These values impact how we treat others. They impact how we respond to peer pressure. They help mold our children into happier and healthier adults.” Interview with Grant Magers, CEO of Moola Monsters
